There’s something enchanting about the way old meets new when it comes to Golden Goose sneakers. Since its launch in 2000, its founders, Francesca Rinaldo and Alessandro Gallo, have taken retro-inspired silhouettes and applied cutting-edge techniques to make their Italian-made shoes look and feel like you’ve owned them forever. It’s old-becomes-new-becomes-old-again.
Fitting, then, that when we tapped members of the Barneys women’s shoe buying team to show off how they’re styling the newest arrivals from Golden Goose, we headed to one of New York’s most intriguing vintage-themed spaces. Drawing from the best of the 1970s, The VNYL in NYC’s East Village brings the glamour of the decade to life through custom furnishing reminiscent of the era.
Scroll on as the team gets set loose, putting their personal style on display.

“While I gravitate towards investing in core timeless pieces, I love having fun with mixing colors, patterns, and prints for shoes and accessories. I loved how the houndstooth pant and the leopard pony hair bag played back to the cozy cashmere sweater. Adding in the metallic sneaker really pulled everything together, and I loved how the shoe became the focal point of the look.”

“The romantic aesthetic of this ruffled Philosophy blouse, paired back to a simple straight Derek Lam pant, is a solid example of how I like to wear feminine pieces with an edge. I love how the silver glitter details of these sneakers—which I got to help design since they’re exclusive to Barneys—complement the metallic blouse. And they’re great because you can dress them up or down, and still feel comfortable and cool!”
Associate Buyer, Women’s Private Label Shoes
“Slipdresses are always my first go-to, as they are super versatile yet effortlessly stylish. I love pairing girly and feminine pieces like this Nili Lotan dress with a not-so-perfect distressed jacket or sneaker to make the look a little less serious and more natural. The right shoe can elevate and create a harmonious balance between all the pieces in any look.”
Assistant Buyer, Women’s Designer Shoes
“The denim Golden Goose sneakers fit the casual grunge styles of the other pieces in this look. This Faith Connexion top takes something standard like a plaid shirt and makes it fashion forward with over-sized sleeves and a detached hem. The jeans are Off-White and have the brand’s signature bedazzled industrial belt along the side, pairing back to the slick patent bag. I like how the whole look plays with fashion and deconstruction from the ground up.”
