After rereading Ray Bradbury’s novel Dandelion Wine, designer Thakoon Panichgul found himself thinking about “summer captured and stoppered.” Those musings on time and seasons ultimately coalesced into the Fall 2013 collection he sent down the runway earlier this week—a refreshing respite from fall’s traditionally darker palette.

“Thakoon’s mix of prints and ideas—dandelions, dragon flies, lace insets, sequins and furry cheetah spots—all collided in a lovely way,” reports Barneys New York Fashion Director Tomoko Ogura, who made note of all the “dreamy colors—Russian blue, shades of purple, shades of grey, black and white, navy and hot pink.”

The models’ glitter-encrusted eyelids reflected those same hues and dashes of sparkle; in fact, the dramatic beauty look, created by NARS makeup artist Diane Kendal, caused nearly as much of a stir as the clothes themselves. (You may remember that NARS and Thakoon have teamed up before.)

“Thakoon’s winter collection is inspired by summer,” Kendal explained. “So it was a combination of rich fabrics with short-sleeved dresses and heavy stoles with dragonflies. We wanted to reflect that in the makeup, so we did a very dark midnight blue shadow, but to get that summer feel we added glitter on top. It created the perfect juxtaposition between winter and summer.”

You’ll have to wait a few months to don Thakoon’s latest designs, but the timing couldn’t be better to try out Kendal’s beauty look, given that Barneys’ “Love Yourself” event is in full swing. Below, Kendal shares the products she used to create that eye-catching visage…
