Video & Photos: GAGA’S WORKSHOP Is Open!

“It’s awesome!” affirmed designer Alexander Wang, who was among the ecstatic fans (and equally ecstatic VIPs) who rolled up to Barneys last night for the grand opening of GAGA’S WORKSHOP. At 9:45pm, Lady Gaga appeared in the mouth-inspired entrance to the store clad in a custom Chanel gown and wielding a pair of over-sized shears. With her signature panache, she snipped the ribbon, signaling the official beginning of the holiday season—gone completely Gaga.

Upstairs, invited guests sipped cocktails and got a jump on their holiday shopping in the 5,500-square foot workshop. Gaga herself took a stroll through the colorful scene, pausing to shake a snow globe as she passed through the eight stations that make up the workshop, created by collaborators Nicola Formichetti, Eli Sudbrack and Christophe Hamaide Pierson (of avaf), and Barneys Creative Director Dennis Freedman.

Among the attendees was a delighted Blake Lively, who admitted, “It was pretty mind-blowing walking in here. I’m really excited about these fake nails, and I got my mom a glitter ball.”

Neil Patrick Harris also had his eye on the glitter balls, while model Carolyn Murphy and her daughter browsed the selection of hand-knit dolls.

In another corner, stylist Giovanna Battaglia admired the giant Gaga-turned-spider. “It’s like being in Gaga’s house! I want everything. I will probably wear one of the masks on New Year’s.” And we found Glamour’s Anne Christensen near the workshop’s central sculpture, where she told us: “I’m getting all my stocking stuffers. I think the magnets, journals and chocolates are amazing, and I’m going back for one of the crying candles,” (which weep wax).

Their shopping completed, guests like Brad Goreski, Prabal Gurung, and Leigh Lezark retreated to the raucous cocktail lounge. And when the workshop’s doors opened to the public at 11:59pm, the madness really began…
