No Stars, No Stripes: Chic Independence Day Style

Pictured: Maiyet.

As kids, Fourth of July parties rivaled Halloween in their dress-up potential: No outfit was complete without an American flag or two (or, at the very least, a fully-striped ensemble with some star accents). Our patriotism hasn’t faltered—but as our sense of style has gotten a bit subtler, our spangled days may be behind us. Below, our pared-back tribute to the red, white, and blue, for wherever your Independence Day celebrations may take you.

Shorts are a necessity for lounging in the grass, and this romper ups the style factor considerably. Just add a melt-proof flush and an armful of friendship-style bracelets to get in touch with your inner youth. Don’t forget the picnic blanket! Rosé, anyone?

A Day at the Beach
Keep it classic with a streamlined maillot, flat sandals, and aviators—plus a pale tote to stash your pullover and scarf for those breezy evenings. Other essentials? SPF (of course) and a cute cap.

Rooftop Cocktails
Got a front-row seat for the fireworks show? Dress accordingly in an easy jersey dress, of-the-moment mules, a bright clutch—and enough rings on your fingers to rival the sparklers in the sky.
