Kwanzaa, Christmas, Hanukkah, Christmakkah, Festivus—no matter which holiday (or holidays) you celebrate (or don’t!) this time of year, Secret Santa is one tradition no one should miss out on. From the flutter you feel in picking out that oh-so-right present, to the excitement of tearing into that colorful paper and finding out what you’ll be taking home with you, there’s nothing like a round of Secret Santa to get anyone in the holiday spirit.
We decided to elevate the style quotient of the beloved gifting game by enlisting ten of today’s top designers as players. But before we get to the unwrapping, a few things you should know: Some of these folks have never met, others have been friends for decades. There was no budget because a budget is, well, a buzz kill. And lastly, none of the designers know who’s doing the shopping. This is, after all, called Secret Santa for a reason. The big reveal is below and fingers crossed, they like their gifts! Scroll on to see who’ll be cleaning up in the presents department this year, then head over to Barneys to cross a few items off your own gifting list.
“I’ve known Jen for a long time, and she has always been the epitome of understated chic, wearing pieces that are simple, cool, beautifully crafted, but somehow seem like she’s had forever. Her jewelry is the same—she makes pieces you want to wear every day, that make a subtle statement, are elegant and timeless, yet designed with just enough of a twist, whether sentimental, ironic, or simply cool. She has put her own modern spin on the idea of jewelry as heirloom—pieces a mother and daughter, best friends, or partners would share and wear every day forever. I’d love to see her in our long flannel kimono with vintage denim trim, only because to me, it embodies the same attitude. A fresh take on familiar fabrics, faded, worn, and a statement of simple, relaxed elegance. I could see Jen or any woman wearing her jewelry with this piece.” – Greg Lauren
“Knowing Sander’s last collection for Sies Marjan was almost entirely pink, my guess is he really likes pink—which makes us kindred spirits! I also would guess Sander has to travel quite a lot, so I choose as my gift to him the Lisa Perry color-blocked hot pink and red cashmere travel set. I hope he is comfy and cozy when using it! Happy holidays to Sander and to all.” – Lisa Perry
“From Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle, I would give Andrea Musc Ravageur in a travel spray, 3 of my Laguna B candles—black, white and yellow—and our Iris Hand Cream. As for other things, I would get her this pencil sharpener, as I am obsessed with having my own pencils sharpened before starting to draw, and the notebook that I have always with me, in case I have a bright idea. And chocolate that I am addicted to!” – Frédéric Malle
“One of my favorite places in the world! Hoping Yoon can be inspired by the bohemian energy of this special place that is so close to my heart. xx” – Esteban Cortazar
“Nothing gives a more cozy vibe then a cute Teddy bear! Season’s greetings to Patrick from Tokyo!” – Yoon Ahn
“Secretly, I am projecting—I want this hat for myself. Isn’t that how most people shop? I think Greg would fare well in this hat, though. It’s practical AND cute, like him!” – Natalie Joos
