Delvaux, the oldest leather luxury goods house in the world, has been known for using only the finest, most supple skins since 1829. So you can imagine the double take we did when we first spotted their Brillant MM Chaperon Rouge, a translucent handbag crafted in vibrant scarlet vinyl. Yes, vinyl.
A playful, cheeky take on Delvaux’s iconic Brillant MM, a ladylike style created in 1958 for the Brussels World’s Fair, this limited-edition piece acknowledges its storied past with a tongue-in-cheek (or dare we say tongue-in-chic) twist. The Brillant MM was first introduced in vinyl (the Brillant Troublant) for Delvaux’s 180th birthday a few years ago; not surprisingly, it sold out almost instantly.
This time, the special-edition version in candy-apple red is making its debut just in time for Valentine’s Day.
And the name? For a hint, take a peek at the window installation at the Delvaux flagship in Brussels pictured up top. It tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood (aka Le Chaperon Rouge) and the Big Bad Wolf with light and shadows. Just like its namesake, the Chaperon Rouge handbag is timeless and charming. We say, what better gift for a lady of wit and style this February 14th?
Stay tuned: The Brillant MM Chaperon Rouge will be arriving in select stores and online soon. To pre-order this bag, call Barneys on Madison Avenue at 212-826-8900. In the meantime, shop the entire Delvaux collection at Barneys.com.
