“The best color in the whole world is the one that looks good on you.” So said Coco Chanel, the pinnacle of French style and elegance. It should come as no surprise that the legendary brand she founded has since moved beyond clothing and accessories to become one of the leaders in another area of color expertise: makeup and cosmetics. We’re thrilled to announce that CHANEL’s incredible collection of lipsticks, eye shadows, palettes, and skincare is now available on barneys.com for the very first time.
“CHANEL has long been known for its luxurious fashion, but it is incredibly important in the world of beauty,” says Barneys VP of Cosmetics, Jennifer Miles. “The color stories are amazing and always on trend, and they’ve created cult-worthy items in their nail polishes and palettes. People, both customers and beauty industry insiders, are always looking to see what CHANEL will be doing next.”
For Fall 2017, that drive toward innovation has taken the form of a color collection inspired by a formative road trip that the CHANEL Global Creative Makeup and Color Designer Lucia Pica took through southern California. With a photographer and videographer in tow, Pica meandered from Los Angeles to Big Sur and back again, allowing the sights and experiences along the way serve as her muse. In her deft hands, the glint of a horizon line became the hue of a nail lacquer, the glittering lights of downtown L.A. transformed into an eyeshadow palette, and the blazing sky at sunset inspired the poppy red of a lipstick.
“It’s very different and surprising for CHANEL, which has always been very French-focused, to come out with something inspired by a trip through California,” Miles continues, referring to Pica’s new inspiration for the shades. “The collection itself is very wearable and very beautiful.” Miles is also enthusiastic about the overall direction she’s seen Pica take the beauty line in.
“Lucia has completely changed the way CHANEL comes out with their color stories. She has revamped everything from the names of the colors to the timing of when new collections are released, and the colors she’s creating are more on-trend and more wearable than they’ve ever been before. She’s gotten away from the traditional CHANEL product that everyone expected.”
One of the specific products Miles has been most excited to see released under Pica’s direction is this season’s new Palette Essentielle. “The palette is gorgeous, and what’s really special about it is that there are multiple products all packaged together,” Miles says. “You have a concealer, a highlighter, and a color for both lips and cheeks, all together.” Pica herself has likened the palette to Madame Chanel’s famous creation, the Little Black Dress, calling the Palette Essentielle the ‘Little Black Palette,’ since it’s the one thing a woman should be sure to have in her purse when going out.
In addition to the amazing new products, though, their availability online also has Miles especially excited for this season. “Having digital access to CHANEL is incredible for our customers because it means they’ll be able to replenish all their favorite products from home,” she gushes. “Of course we love having our clients in the store, but once they’ve already had met our amazing in-store counter staff and had the experience of touching and feeling the products, falling in love with them, and choosing their ideal shades, they can now easily replenish their products online.”
