As part of our ongoing 2016 BNY Sole Series collaborations, today we’re unveiling the latest from the project, a limited-edition Common Projects sneaker. This new style—available in both brown and grey—is the Barneys New York update to the brand’s famed Achilles shoe, and the silhouette has been elevated with hand-burnished leather so no two pairs are exactly the same. We spoke with Chris Pepe, our Senior Men’s Footwear buyer to learn more about the exclusive design. “When we were working on ideas for our next collaboration, we remembered the success we had with hand-burnishing from some of our artisanal designers, so we decided to apply the same concept to these Common Projects sneakers,” Pepe explained.
This artisanal finish adds a unique twist to a modern brand and popular style. “The Achilles is such a simple silhouette that anybody can wear it. We chose brown and grey leather because we wanted these sneakers to feel classic while also allowing the tones of the hand-burnishing to appear more prevalently,” he notes. The team has had many exclusive partnerships with Common Projects in the past and may be experimenting with additional color-ways of this polished finish, so keep checking back for more limited-edition BNY Sole Series releases.
