Since it launched in 2007, Jennine Jacob’s The Coveted has offered us a treasure trove of vintage-meets-nerdy style. But this NYC-based blogger’s contributions to the online world do not end there. A few months after starting her blog, Ms. Jacobs created Independent Fashion Bloggers, an outlet for bloggers to share their queries about blogging. Her newest venture, eat, sleep, denim, highlights all things denim.
Below, Barneys catches up with Ms. Jacobs to talk street style and how personal blogs have changed the fashion industry for the better.

Barneys New York: How would you describe your style?
Jennine Jacob: Vintage nerd meets classy boss lady. Yep, real classy.
BNY: Who are your biggest fashion influences?
JJ: I’m mostly influenced by my environment—the people on the street, my friends, and people I work with, to name a few. I love my neighborhood—Nolita—which is quite possibly the most stylish neighborhood ever. But New York is incredible everywhere.
BNY: What is the most coveted item in your closet?
JJ: I love my woven Prada pumps. They’re part of the Made In collection and they’re made in India. I just love the rich colors and texture. To be honest, part of the reason I fell in love with them was because it’s hard to find great pumps with no platform.
BNY: What do you love about street style?
JJ: Everything! The first street style blog I saw was in 2006 called FaceHunter. It blew my mind to see what women were wearing at parties in Paris. I remember seeing a group of women wearing black tights with mini dresses, and I immediately had to work that look into my wardrobe.

BNY: What BNY designer do you love most?
JJ: I really have a lot of respect and admiration for Mary Katrantzou. She’s an artist and produces the most amazing pieces with the absolute highest quality. I’m always in awe when I’m in the presence of one of her dresses.
BNY: In your opinion, have personal style blogs and websites changed fashion for the better?
JJ: Of course! Blogs have opened up a fashion conversation. Before, you would only really dish out your fashion secrets with your best friends. Now, we all talk about it in public, and have fun experimenting.
BNY: How does Independent Fashion Blogger (IFB) benefit the fashion community?
JJ: As soon as I started my blog, it was clear I wanted to do this professionally. And as soon I wanted to blog for a living, it was clear that I didn’t know anything about publishing or how to build a business in this industry. That’s when I started a blog to talk about what I didn’t know, and provide support to other bloggers. It turned out there are a lot of people who wanted to learn more about fashion blogging. Enter: IFB.
BNY: What is the best fashion advice you have ever received?
JJ: Wendy Brandes once said, “wear what you want.”

BNY: If you were accidentally locked in Barneys New York, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
JJ: The Mary Katrantzou Vienoua dress with the Derek Lam Fede boots I’ve had my eyes on for a while. God knows what jewelry I’d put on…
