What’s Chic In Chicago? Jena Gambaccini Is on The Case

If you’ve ever been to Chicago, you know that its sense of style is right up there with New York, Paris and London, but it can sometimes get ignored amongst those better known fashion hubs. Luckily, Jena Gambaccini, founder of the ChiCityFashion blog, has made it her personal mission to ensure that her hometown gets the credit it deserves. (We say, Chicagoans deserve extra credit for still managing to look chic in below-zero temps.)

With her love of Proenza Schouler and Prabal Gurung, it’s little wonder that Jena is usually found ransacking the racks at Barneys on Oak Street. Her motto? “We wear clothes everyday, so why not have fun with it?” We couldn’t agree more!

Below, Jena gives us a peek inside her ideal closet…

What is the most coveted item in your closet?
I had the most amazing opportunity to design a custom Proenza Schouler PS1 bag last summer with Jack and Lazaro. It’s an auction I won through Charity Buzz and I adore it.

What late-summer/early-fall staples can you just not live without?

  1. Laura Mercier Tinted moisturizer: it’s much lighter than traditional foundation, and it provides an additional glow.
  2. Silk shorts: You can wear them to work or dress them up for an evening out.
  3. Proenza Schouler bright clutch: I love bold color.

What is the best fashion advice you have received?
Never wear something that you are not 100 percent comfortable in. When you’re not comfortable, people notice.

Fashion muses?
Margherita Missoni. Julia Sarr-Jamois. Miroslava Duma. Anna Dello Russo.

Signature lip color?
Mexican Rose by NARS. It lasts all day!

Take us on your tour of Chicago.
One of my favorite things to do in Chicago is attend the street festivals in various neighborhoods. Every summer each neighborhood has their own street fest (Taste of Randolph, Wicker Park Fest, Do Division Street, etc). It’s the perfect way to discover new restaurants and bars in each of the neighborhoods. I also enjoy a good brunch at Fred’s! (Who doesn’t?)

If you were accidentally locked in Barneys, what would we find you wearing in the morning?
If I were locked in the Barneys Chicago flagship, you’d find me covered head-to-toe in as many Proenza Schouler and Prabal Gurung pieces as I could get my hands on!
1. Proenza Schouler tweed stripe overcoat 2. Prabal Gurung lace panel dress 3. Proenza Schouler crewneck tuck dress 4. Proenza Schouler evening clutch in python 5. Proenza Schouler tie dye tee 6. Proenza Schouler PS1 small zip wallet 7. Proenza Schouler pleated skirt dress 8. Proenza Schouler PS1 medium satchel 9. Prabal Gurung V-neck dress
