Aside from designing the type of dresses that have a knack for making you feel elegant, sexy and feminine all at once, designers Robert Tagliapietra and Jeffrey Costello happen to be genuine, down-to-earth people it’s hard not to love—which is why we hosted a soirée with Anne V last night at Barneys New York to celebrate the launch of their exclusive collection, C&T Costello Tagliapietra.
As soon as they arrived, Jeffrey and Robert—dressed in their signature lumberjack attire—were bombarded with hugs from their nearest and dearest. Why so popular? According to Anne V: “They give the best hugs in the world, they treat you like a princess all the time, and they have the cutest dog in the world.” Added Lucy Sykes Rellie: “I met the bears through Francesco [Clark], and I’m obsessed with them. I have a huge crush on them. They’re totally amazing as well as highly talented.”
As for the clothes, the new line with dresses starting at $298, there was nothing but positive feedback. “I feel like they can make any woman feel good because they accentuate your curves,” said longtime friend Francesco Clark, who met the boys four years ago at his birthday party. “It’s almost like a 1950s sexy Sophia Loren type of style.”
But Anne V summed it up best: “It’s just a collection that makes every woman look her best,” she said, later adding, “Knowing them, they put their heart and soul in every single thing that they do. It’s really nice to see not only talented designers, but such good people have such a fantastic opportunity.”
Our very own Senior Fashion Director Tomoko Ogura agreed: “The awesome thing about the boys is that they put so much integrity behind their designs, so it’s not just a dress in any collection. There is a thought process behind it, which is important, and we love telling that story.” (Speaking of their story, Barneys was the very first store to carry their main collection.)
As the night went on, guests mingled, sipped on cocktails and snacked on french fries to the tunes of DJ Greg Krelenstein of The Misshapes. “Today’s playlist is store party music with a twist of Costello Tagliapietra,” he told us. “We’ve been doing their music for so long for every single show that we know what they like.” To add to the fun, there was also an Instagram booth where guests could snap their picture, add #CTLaunch, and have a print-out version immediately.
We finally got a chance to chat with the guests of honor, who, after 17 years together, refer to themselves as “an old married couple.” “At the core of it,” said Robert, “These are dresses women can throw on without thinking about it and still feel elegant and beautiful.”
We couldn’t agree more. But before you dash off to stock your closet with C&T, peruse our party pics below…
