Last night, we celebrated the launch of our debut book, Barneys New York, which documents our unique history spanning over 93 years. Filled with iconic window displays, ad campaigns, Freds recipes, and quotes from industry notables, the book is a beautiful visual representation of Barneys’ rich history and influence on New York City, fashion, and culture.

Guests arrived at Madison Avenue to toast the book’s launch, and many of those in attendance have played a pivotal role in Barneys’ past, present, and future. Influential stylists, models, musicians, and designers including Lisa Perry, Nick Wooster, Brooke Garber Neidich, Thierry Lasry, and Junglepussy all came in celebration of the release.

Fashion enthusiasts and the industry’s elite have shared special memories at Barneys New York over the years, many of which are noted in the new book. Christopher Bollen, the book’s editor, recalled his own fond memory, which took place at the legendary warehouse sales. Those sales offered a first taste of luxury fashion when he moved to New York City.

For EVP/GMM Tom Kalenderian, special moments began in the late 1960s as he accompanied his father to buy suits and viewed the transformative ads by Jack Byrne. “The section of the book on The Golden Age of Advertising moves me deeply. Turning each page, I am revisiting cherished memories, as Mr. Fred Pressman was my mentor. The photograph of Fred presenting his concept for the enhancement of the Barneys store to Mayor John Lindsay exemplifies the extreme humility of Fred and also his pride, expressed subtly with a smile. He loved his store, and even more, he loved to share it with everyone,” says Tom. To Kalenderian, Barneys is a family, having experienced over 37 years with the company and being involved in shaping its history.

At the party, iconic prints from Barneys’ journey were on display as guests enjoyed cocktails and delicious bites from Freds. The comprehensive fashion art book is a must-read for all and is available now, in both a standard version and a limited-edition deluxe version.
