Up Close & Personal: Get to Know The Barneys Beverly Hills Personal Shoppers

Experts in editing, trend analysts, on-the-spot concierges and your in-the-know friends: The Barneys personal shoppers are Jacks—and Janes—of many trades. And did we mention their services are offered gratis?

This week we with spoke with two of our West Coast favorites, Michelle Goodman and Tony Ferreira of the Barneys flagship in Beverly Hills, to hear what their clients are loving this season and what’s in store for next.

The Window: If you had to select just one article of clothing to add maximum impact to a client’s wardrobe this season, what would it be?

Tony: The classic Céline peplum top, which gives a clean, fresh and modern Audrey Hepburn look.

Michelle: A blazer is the most essential piece to any wardrobe and The Row has perfected the art of tailoring.

The Window: What are your clients loving this year?

Tony: For easy summer dressing in Los Angeles, Derek Lam blouses are a must. Navy or black blazers from The Row are great year round as an everyday basic. I also love the way Céline trapeze bags give any outfit an updated look. And Irene Neuwirth jewelry is the perfect accessory for any outfit, day into evening.

Michelle: For men, Rag and Bone basic tees are go-to’s, especially when paired with Barneys exclusive Sperry top-siders for a day at the marina. Givenchy graphic tees are also always a favorite, especially the Rottweiler design. Balmain jeans have been very popular this year; they come in a variety of colors and fly out of the store as soon as they hit the Barneys selling floors. The Paul Smith grid check shirt is a classic gingham that transitions well from day to evening with a linen blazer. Speaking of evening, Prada stretch poplin suiting (call 310.777.5588 to order) is lightweight, chic and extremely attractive since it is so well-priced.

My female clients are loving The Row Schoolboy jacket , which is cropped and fitted with 3/4-length sleeves—perfect for L.A. weather year round. Also by The Row, the Turcus leather pant is a great alternative to jeans as it has a tulip hem and comes in three colors (creme, navy, and wine) and transitions well from day to evening with a change of footwear. A cream silk blouse is essential to any professional wardrobe and Céline has a beautiful crepe de chine tie blouse. With summer here, clients are particularly loving the travel-friendly coral Alaïa jacquard dress to roll up and jet off wrinkle-free! And for fall, my clients are itching to wear an oversized shearling Marni coat in camel (call 310.777.5588 to pre-order).

Tony: The Row, Céline, Nina Ricci, and Givenchy.

Michelle: Isabel Marant, Céline, Dries Van Noten, and The Row.

The Window: And which new designers are you most excited to introduce them to?

Tony: Giulietta (call 310.777.5588 to order) and Prabal Gurung.

Michelle: Maiyet and Giulietta.
