In fashion, trends are fleeting, but whether it be 10 months or 10 years, the classics remain. Just ask Scott Sternberg.
Not on your contact list? No worries—our own Molly Nutter, Barneys’ DMM for Women’s RTW, sat down with the creative genius behind Band of Outsiders to commemorate the L.A.-based brand’s 10-year anniversary. Just hours before a celebrity-studded dinner hosted by Barneys and comedian Aziz Ansari, the longtime friends chatted one-on-one at the expansive BoO design studio in West Hollywood about the brand’s evolution and Barneys capsule collection, or the “essential wardrobe,” as Sternberg likes to call it.
“It’s the freshest nostalgia that can be,” he says of the brand. “It’s the future of what we love about American prep.”
Among racks of clothes from seasons past, the duo reminisced about Sternberg’s initiation to the Barneys family. Lucky for us, the designer also unveiled the concept behind his next pre-fall collection, along with a few other titillating tidbits—including his favorite vacation destinations, guilty pleasures, and his unfiltered feelings on doggie wear. Hint: He’s not a fan.
“Dogs are nudists,” he explains.
Watch the video for the tête-à-tête—with a very special guest appearance by Sternberg’s own pup, General Zod—and get intimate with the brand a decade in the making. It’s an exclusive inside look—for outsiders and all.
