I’ve always wondered about the function of resort clothing. The concept is that you are wearing them in a resort, or according to some designers, on a cruise. But that has never been the case for me—I spend every winter holiday in the icy-cold Adirondack mountains wrapped in goose down and fur. Yet, I still love resort. It hits just at that moment when the excitement of wearing my moody, cozy fall clothes has started to wear off and I’m craving something to lighten the gloom. I also appreciate that resort collections are often less visible in the press. Even outside their intended setting, they accomplish that cherished duality of playful, attention-catching color and more subtle “Where’d you get that?” discretion.
