Alexander Girard was a multi-faceted, super-creative dude, and so is Todd Oldham. It is therefore only fitting that Todd, along with writer Kiera Coffee, should have produced the definitive Alexander Girard monograph. Celebrating the launch of this massive book at Madison Avenue Chelsea Passage last night was a diverse and exuberant bunch of Oldham/Girard acolytes including hostess Wendy Goodman in a Girard-print apron; the eternally glam Lady Kier (formerly of the band Dee-Lite); Todd’s longtime partner and collaborator, Tony Longoria; former Oldham muse and runway model Billie Beyond; the multi-facted and super-creative Ann Sui and John Waters; Annelise Peterson and Paloma Tree Fataar. Rounding out the group were members of the Girard family, who added luster and gravitas to the evening. It was a really heavy scene—and a really heavy book. It weighs 15 pounds. I nearly herniated myself schlepping it home.
