The concept behind one of Barneys’ latest menswear capsule collections was simple: create essential pieces that enhance the already well-dressed man’s wardrobe. But to execute the challenge, our team looked beyond the realm of menswear, ultimately tapping Agnès Trouble, the well-known designer behind the French womenswear brand agnès b.
“The Barneys New York Mens team was looking to find pure and modern clothes that would appeal to the needs of our clients that have enough casual sportswear and are seeking something a bit more sleek for the city,” said Tom Kalenderian, Barneys’ General Merchandise Manager and EVP. “agnès b. kept coming up as a reference to this minimalist mood, referencing timeless classics like the perfect white shirt, skinny black jacket and trousers. What better solution than to go to the source?”
The result? The agnès b. homme collection, created especially for Barneys New York by Madame Trouble herself.
The range consists of many of the designer’s most referential pieces—updated with special fabrics and unique colors for fall. For the Barneys man, Madame Trouble has created statement pieces (a leather zip-front motorcycle jacket, a fully-lined weekend trench coat) along with everyday staples (selvedge denim five-pocket slim jeans, her signature striped long-sleeve shirts).
These handsome pieces resonate with agnès b.’s elegant yet simple aesthetic, embodying the essence of understated French style.
